Anton Ludwig Ulrich (* 9. May 1751 in Brilon , † 8. October 1834 in Bredelar ) was a German entrepreneur of the mining industry in pre- and early industrial period.

Life

Ulrich came from a trade and entrepreneurial family that had its economic focus in the 18th and 19th centuries in the upper Sauerland, but was also economically active in other parts of Westphalia. His father was Ludwig Joseph Ulrich († 1786), a landlord in Hoppecke , iron works operator and mayor. In 1774 Ulrich founded a hammer and smelting works near an ironworks in Altenbeken that had previously been operated by his father . A blast furnace was added in 1777. After the death of his father, he also took over his estates and businesses in Brilon. This also included shares in the mines of the Brilon Eisenberg . In 1802 he acquired the second ironworks in Altenbeken. The factories specialized in the manufacture of ovens.

He also acquired the smelters and ore mines in the Hoppecke valley and around Giershagen, as well as shares in mines across the border in Waldeck. Due to economic difficulties, only the huts in Bredelar and Hoppecke remained. From 1825 Ulrich planned to build a new hut, but he only received the license on condition that the two previous huts be shut down. Together with his son Theodor, he had a blast furnace built in the former monastery church of Bredelar Monastery , and the Theodorshütte opened in 1828.

During the time of the Kingdom of Westphalia , Ulrich was mayor (Maire) of Altenbeken from 1808 to 1813. He was also a council member for the Höxter district and a member of the imperial estates of the Kingdom of Westphalia between 1808 and 1813 .

In 1823 he sold the iron works in Altenbeken and in 1827 moved to Bredelar to live with his son's family.
