Anton Martin Bauer (born September 10, 1963 in Unterpremstätten , Styria ) is an Austrian show jumper and former eventing rider .

In 1996 he started at the Olympic Games in Atlanta , four years later he rode in Sydney . He is a seven-time Austrian national champion, as well as participant and winner of several national awards .

Career

For many years, Bauer rode in the stable of eventing rider Norbert Serschen, with whom he also completed his training as a rider. In eventing he became junior champion and started at the European championships.

From 1985 he worked for Peter Mylius, with whom he switched to jumping camp. In 1992 he achieved his first international tournament successes, including the Grand Prix of Palermo , where he competed in a Nations Cup for the first time . At the European Championships in Gijón in 1993 and at the 1994 World Championships in The Hague , he was also on the team.

In 1994 he started his own business and in 1995 bought the gelding Vesuve Paluelle , also known as Remus Vesuve and Remus Vep , with sponsor Mostegel . He started with the horse at the Olympic Games in Atlanta and reached 11th place in the individual. Shortly afterwards, the gelding was sold. With the horses Remus Racing and Remus Equo , however, he quickly found a replacement. The great successes did not materialize until 1998, however: at the Munich Grand Prix at the Munich Indoors , he finished second with Remus Equo and shortly afterwards won the Hanover championship.

Others

On April 11, 2005 at 2 o'clock in the morning, his horse truck crashed on an Italian motorway in the Venice area on the way back from the tournament in Manerbio . According to the police report, the van was pushed into the ditch by an overtaking car and overturned. His top horses Remus Racing and Coconut Kiss died ; his third horse Castello , with whom he had recently won the Grand Prix, was seriously injured. His two young horses that were in the trailer were unharmed. It took several hours to free the horses. Since neither the horses nor the truck were insured, the accident threatened Bauer's existence. Shortly afterwards, rumors broke out that he was considering giving up equestrianism.
