Anton Spiehler (* 1848 in Bayreuth ; † July 18, 1891 in Memmingen ) was a German alpinist and is considered to be the developer of the Lechtal and Allgäu Alps . He carried out numerous first ascents of mountain peaks and, as the first chairman of the Memmingen section of the DOeAV, drove the construction of the Memminger Hütte at 2242 meters above sea level near Seewisees in the Lechtal Alps from 1885 to 1886. He supported the Kempten section in the construction of their hut under the Mädelejoch , with which the Allgäu Alps were connected to the Lechtal network of trails by the shortest possible route. He wrote several books about his mountain tours. The Spiehler Tower east of the Parzinnspitze at 2550 meters above sea level, the Spiehlerkamm above the upper Seewisee, the Spiehlerweg to the Augsburger Hütte , the Spiehlerturm-Scharte and the Spiehlerscharte / Faulewandspitze in the Lechtal Alps are named after him. In the city of Memmingen, the Spiehlerweg bears his name. His tomb is in the Old Cemetery , a memorial plaque on his former home in Fuggergasse in the old town. It was unveiled on September 20, 1959 on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Memmingen Alpine Club Section. He died of heart failure on July 18, 1891 at the Castel Sant'Angelo near Kempter Tor in Memmingen .
