Anton Steer

Anton Steer (* 27. June 1935 in Landshut ) is a former German officer of the Army of the Armed Forces , most recently in rank of a major general .

Life

Steer was one of the first Bundeswehr volunteers. He began his career on January 2, 1956 as an officer candidate for the artillery force in Andernach and was thus one of the first 500  candidates for the Bundeswehr. After various assignments, including from 1983 to 1987 as a brigade commander of Panzerbrigade 3 , he became commanding general of the III. Corps in Koblenz , which he stayed until his retirement in 1992.

From around 1980 Steer was editor of the Army Yearbook (Bernhard & Graefe) until 1982, together with Peter Noack . In 1989 he was editor of the book People Leading in the Army (Report Verlag, Frankfurt am Main ).

In 1994 Steer was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany . On his initiative, the Barbara monument in Koblenz was rebuilt in 2015 . In 2018 he received the Old Town Prize of the City of Koblenz.
