Anton Jakob Ullmann (born January 1, 1732 in Neudek ; † July 5, 1807 there ) was a Bohemian mountain master , geometer and chemist . In 1788 he had the first hard coal mine built.

Life

Anton Ullmann was born as the fourth child of the white baker , city judge and mayor Franz Ignaz Ullmann (1700–1777) and his wife Anna Regina nee. Schott (* 1698) was born in Neudek in the Ore Mountains . He was a member of an old, widely ramified family that originally came from Saxony , had its own coat of arms with the date 1450 and settled in the area around Neudek in the 16th century. The family branch moved from Trinksaifen to Neudek in 1670 .

Ullmann, a geometer and chemist by profession, took over the office of Bergmeister von Neudek from his uncle Johann Martin Schott (* 1689) in 1758. In April 1788 he had the first hard coal mine built at Meierhof not far from Grünlas on Elbogener Weg (old Poststrasse) (later on the mine next to the municipal Meierhof in Neusattl ). Ullmann's most difficult work here was the planning and implementation of a 190 fathom long water tunnel that led to the mine. A sketch that he had made of the old gentleman's oven in Grünlas appeared in the book Topography of Historic Art-Monuments in the Kingdom of Bohemia .

When the elderly Ullmann retired in his role as miner on January 1, 1801, his son, the previous miner Kaspar Ullmann (1767-1853), took his place , not as a state, but as a lordly miner, in whatever capacity he was was confirmed by the kk Bergoberamt St. Joachimsthal on February 12, 1802. Ullmann died of exhaustion in 1807 in Neudek at the age of 75.

His grandson Franz Ullmann (* 1800) is probably identical to the last Bergmeister von Neudek, who had an accident in the Hirschkopfzeche in 1864 .
