Anton Walter (born April 3, 1883 in Karlsbad , † September 25, 1950 in Munich ) was an Austrian cellist .

Life

From 1896 to 1901 he studied the cello with Ferdinand Hellmesberger at the Conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna .

After completing his studies, he was a member of the Fitzner Quartet from 1901 to 1919 . In 1918 he became principal cellist with the Vienna Tonkünstler Orchestra . From 1921 to 1930 he played in the Rosé Quartet . From 1934 to 1937 he was a member of the Munich Stross Quartet .

He also worked as a private teacher, so he taught a. a. Emanuel Feuermann . From 1918 to 1921 he represented Paul Grümmer and Friedrich Buxbaum as a substitute teacher at the Vienna Music Academy . From 1928 to 1930 he took a master class at the Lutwak-Patonay Conservatory . In 1930 he received a professorship at the State Academy of Music in Munich.

Walter was married to a daughter of the Viennese architect Hugo von Wiedenfeld .
