Anton Hermann Ritter von Stadler , called Toni von Stadler , (born July 9, 1850 in Göllersdorf , † September 17, 1917 in Munich ), was an Austro-German painter.

Life

Stadler was born the son of a business councilor and attended the Josefstädter Gymnasium in Vienna . He studied medicine and natural sciences in Vienna and Würzburg . During his studies in 1868 he became a member of the Silesia Vienna fraternity . In 1873 he broke off his studies because he wanted to be a painter.

Stadler studied in Berlin with Paul Friedrich Meyerheim and went to Munich in 1878. The painter Adolf Stäbli gave rise to his interest in French open-air painting . In 1893 Toni Stadler was co-founder of the Munich Secession and temporarily director of the Munich Art Academy . As an early member of the German Association of Artists , Toni Stadler senior took part in the first joint DKB exhibition with the Munich Secessionists in 1904, where he showed two oil paintings.

Toni Stadler is occasionally confused with his son of the same name (1888–1982), a well-known sculptor and draftsman who was also active in the Munich area.

His half-brother was the Germanist Wilhelm Scherer .
