Antonija Sandrić b. Mišura (born May 19, 1988 in Šibenik , Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian professional basketball player . She plays as point guard and shooting guard for Samsun Canik Belediye Spor in Türkiye Kadınlar Basketbol Süper Ligi and for the Croatian national team of women, where she is known for her fast and aggressive style.

biography

As a child she mainly played volleyball , but following the example of her older sister and her role model, Dražen Petrović , who also came from Šibenik, she became increasingly interested in basketball. Her professional career began in 2005 with ŽKK Vidici Dalmostan and in 2007 with ŽKK Šibenik (Jolly JBS), with whom she won both the national championship and the Croatian Cup (Ružica Meglaj-Rimac Cup) in 2008.

With the national team, she won the bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in 2009 , came fifth at the 2011 European Basketball Championships and tenth at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and also took part in the 2013 European Women's Basketball Championships .

Antonija Mišura is often described in the media as "the most beautiful sportswoman in Croatia". Mišura commented that she found this attention both pleasant and annoying. She turned down most of the offers to work as a model and instead focused on her career and education. In 2012 she studied tourism management in Šibenik.

In August 2015 she married her long-time friend, Croatian basketball player Marko Sandrić .

In 2009 she was named Miss Mediterranean Games in a survey of 80 accredited photographers from 23 countries . The American Bleacher Report named her the most beautiful athlete in the 2012 Olympics, American entertainment and lifestyle magazine Muze described her as one of the most impressive athletes in the 2012 Summer Olympics, and her appearance in London led to similar reports in Russia Today , the New England Sports Network and the Serbian newspaper Blic . The Croatian media quoted a tweet from NBA player Nate Robinson who, after seeing Mišura playing Croatia against the Czech Republic , wrote that she was arguably the most beautiful basketball player to have ever laced her athletic shoes (“might be the most beautiful woman basketball player ever to lace up some sneakers ").
