Antonio Cotogni (born August 1, 1831 in Rome , † October 15, 1918 ibid) was an Italian opera singer (baritone) and singing teacher.

At the age of twelve, Contogni attended the singing school of the Ospizio di San Michele and continued his training at the Capella di Santa Maria Maggiore and with Achille Faldi and Domenico Fontemaggi . In 1849 he joined Giuseppe Garibaldi's revolutionary army. In 1852 he made his debut at the Teatro Metastasio in Rome as Belcore in Gaetano Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore . After appearances at smaller theaters, he had his first appearance at La Scala in Milan in the 1860–61 season . Just like here, he had numerous successful guest appearances on many other stages in Italy, in Saint Petersburg, Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Paris and Lisbon.

As a singing teacher, Cotogni worked from 1894 to 1898 at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory , from 1899 at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia . His numerous students included Mattia Battistini , Jean de Reszke , Giacomo Lauri-Volpi , Carlo Galeffi , Julian Biel , Dinh Gilly , Virgilio Lazzari , August Beuf , Giuseppe Costa , Luigi Rossi-Morelli , Guido Cicciolini , Tadeusz Orda and Benjamino Gigli . With some recordings from the 1900s, Cotogni is considered to be the oldest opera singer from whom sound recordings have been preserved.
