Antonio Fornoni
Antonio Fornoni (born September 18, 1825 in Venice ; † April 7, 1897 there ) was an entrepreneur and from 1872 to 1875 the first non-noble under the mayors of Venice, an office that he led alongside Giuseppe Giovanelli . After his mayoral work, he was president of the Consiglio provinciale di Venezia (1895-1897) and a member of the royal senate, the Senato del Regno (d'Italia) .
Life
Antonio Fornoni was the son of Elisabetta Breda and Giovanni Fornoni and thus the scion of a family that dominated the place Favaro Veneto . Fornoni ran a cotton weaving mill, was consigliere on the Venetian city and provincial level, and finally mayor in March 1872. At the end of 1874 he became a member of the Senate.
In Venice he supported the establishment of a water supply, the expansion of the cemetery island of San Michele and the construction of the railway, as well as the expansion of the commercial school. The aqueduct was inaugurated on February 23, 1874.
In May 1872 there was a strike of the facchini , the servants on the Giudecca , in August Tito Zanardelli founded the first internationalist anarchist section, followed the next month by a socialist section called Pensiero e Azione , in 1874 Giuseppe Alburno founded the weekly La Voce del Popolo ( The voice of the people).
In 1875 the bronze statue for Daniele Manin , which Luigi Borro had created, was inaugurated on Campo Manin . The Austrian Emperor stayed in Venice from April 5 to 7, 1875, and Giuseppe Garibaldi on February 23, 1876 . In September 1877 Giobatta Giustinian became mayor of Venice for the second time.
