Antonio Jiménez Manjón (* 1866 in Villacarillo , Andalusia, Spain ; † January 3, 1919 in Buenos Aires ) was a Spanish composer and guitar virtuoso.

Life

Antonio Jiménez Manjón went blind from an illness at the age of 13 months. He left his homeland at the age of 14 and devoted himself to guitar studies in Paris. He earned his living with a virtuoso guitar program. In addition to his own compositions, it included works by Fernando Sor (e.g. the Sonata op. 25 ) and Dionisio Aguado as well as transcriptions by Beethoven and Schubert . He has given concerts as a guitarist in several European countries such as Germany, Austria, England and Russia. In 1893 Jiménez went on a concert tour to South America, where he finally settled in Buenos Aires. Here he founded a conservatory where he taught himself. He died in Buenos Aires in 1919.
