Antonio Moretto
Antonio Orazio Moretto (* 1773 ; † August 6, 1833 in Häggenschwil ) was a southern German painter . He worked in Zurich for the reformed pastor Johann Caspar Lavater . From 1802 he lived and worked as a drawing teacher and painter in St. Gallen . His work was mainly portraits, landscapes, miniatures and theatrical decorations.
Several ceiling paintings by Moretto were created in the collegiate church of St. Gallen . Statically damaged choir paintings in the St. Gallen collegiate church, which Antonio Moretto carried out between 1819 and 1824, were overpainted and were removed during the overall restoration in 1963. This brought the original choir paintings by Joseph Wannenmacher to light.
