Antonio Paolo Albonetti

Antonio Paolo Albonetti (born March 28, 1942 in Faenza ) is a former Italian cyclist .

Athletic career

Albonetti made his debut at the age of 16 in 1958. At the age of 20, he celebrated his first victory in the amateur men's class in 1962 at the Italian Road Race Cup of the City of Marmo (Coppa Città del Marmo). After further good placements, the Italian cycling federation nominated him in 1966 for the three-country stage race Internationale Friedensfahrt . There he won a stage and was the second-best Italian tenth in the final standings.

In 1966 Albonetti took part in other amateur races. In the Tour de l'Avenir he won a stage (final result unknown) and he won the Trofeo Matteotti-Marcialla. In the same year he became a professional cyclist with a contract with the Italian cycling team Salamini-Luxor.

In October he drove his first professional race in the three-part time trial Cronostafetta Como - Ghisallo , but was unable to place in the front field. Apart from the second place in the road race Grand Prix of Campagnolo 1967 in Vicenza , Albonetti did not achieve any other outstanding placings during his professional time. In 1967 and 1968 he took part in the Giro d'Italia , where he finished 59th and 62nd. He drove his last registered race in April 1969 for the Italian team Germanvox-Wega, in the one-day race Coppa Bernocchi he was 29 out of 102 drivers. After an unsuccessful year in 1970, Albonetti ended his career as a professional driver.
