Josep Montserrat i Torrents (* 1932 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish teacher , philosopher , coptologist and historian .

life and work

He studied in Barcelona, Rome , Munster , Paris and Benares . He was an active contributor to the Catalan press on the occasion of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), after which his newspaper articles were censored from 1966 to 1977. Montserrat worked as a teacher since 1954; Because of his activities against Franco , the government refused in 1968 to give him the so-called "Certificate of Good Political Conduct", which is why he was unable to continue teaching.

In 1968 he received his doctorate in theology from the Gregorian University (Rome) , and in 1977 he received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Barcelona. Since 1976 he has worked as a philosophy professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona , where he has held a chair since 1996; since 2002 he has been emeritus . He is co-author of the Bellaterra Manifesto and Secretary of the Third Catalan University Congress (April 1978). He was visiting professor at the Catholic University of Chile , at the Venice International University and Directeur d'Etudes Invité at the École Pratique des Hautes Études . He is the founder of the School of Egyptology at the Egyptian Museum in Barcelona.
