Antonio Prieto

Juan Antonio Espinoza Prieto (born May 26, 1927 in Iquique , † July 14, 2011 in Santiago de Chile ) was a Chilean actor and bolero singer . His versatility and charisma made him - next to his compatriot Lucho Gatica - one of the most popular singers in Chile.

Life

Prieto began his career as a participant in the music competition La Feria de los deseos , which Raúl Matas directed at Radio Minería . He became known as a singer in the 1960s and 1970s with ballads such as El Reloj , Chuquicamata and Huija (by his brother Joaquín Prieto ). His most famous piece was the waltz La Novia , which appeared in 1961 and stayed in the Spanish hit lists for a year. In 1964 he took part in the Sanremo Festival with a song by Gino Paoli . In total, Prieto interpreted more than a thousand songs and released several of his own albums.

Antonio Prieto suffered from Alzheimer's and died of cardiac arrest in a clinic in Santiago de Chile at the age of 84.
