Antonio Rodotà

Antonio Rodotà (born December 24, 1935 in Cosenza , † February 23, 2006 in Rome ) was an Italian industrial manager and Director General of the European Space Agency (ESA) from June 1997 to June 2003. He was the first ESA Director General to emerge directly from the Industry came.

Life

Rodotà studied electrical engineering at the University of Rome . After graduating in 1959, he worked at Selenia (1966–1980). For the next three years he was general director of the Italian satellite company CNS and in 1983 he moved to Alenia Spazio , where he was entrusted with various managerial tasks and became general director in 1995. He also worked for Finmeccanica (Italy) and Arianespace . Rodotà was Director General of ESA from June 1997 to June 2003 by appointment of the Council of the European Space Agency. Rodotà is considered to be one of the founding fathers of Europe's Galileo satellite navigation system .

His successor was Jean-Jacques Dordain .
