Antonio Thrasybule Kebreau (born November 11, 1909 in Port-au-Prince , † January 13, 1963 ) was a Haitian general , politician and President of Haiti .

biography

After finishing school, he began a military career in the Forces Armées d'Haïti and was an officer after enrolling at the military academy in 1930. In 1957 he was promoted to colonel .

As the highest-ranking officer, he led a bloody coup against the interim president Daniel Fignolé . Kebreau became Fignolé's successor on June 14, 1957, Chairman of the Military Government Council ( Conseil Militaire du Gouvernement ) and thus also President of Haiti . The Military Government Council consisted of Colonel Émile Zamor and Colonel Adrien Valville.

On October 22, 1957, he handed over the presidency to François Duvalier, who clearly emerged as the winner of the presidential elections with 70 percent of the vote , thereby ushering in a dictatorship of almost 30 years for the Duvalier family.

He was then appointed ambassador by Duvalier . Rumor has it that Kebreau was murdered by poison on behalf of Duvalier .
