Antonio Virgilio Savona

Antonio Virgilio Savona (born December 21, 1919 in Palermo , † August 27, 2009 in Milan ) was an Italian composer , arranger and singer .

Career

Savona's artistic career began in childhood; He began at the age of six, sang in a choir a little later and made his first radio appearance at the age of ten. After finishing school, he enrolled at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in order piano study. In 1941 he replaced Iacopo Jacomelli in the vocal quartet Quartetto Egie . After changing names to Quartetto Ritmo and finally Quartetto Cetra , his wife Lucia Mannucci (* 1922), whom he married in 1944, became a member of the group in 1947 to replace Enrico De Angelis . Another member was Felice Chiusano (1923-1990). Savona was the group's composer and arranger; Lyricist was the fourth member, Tata Giacobetti (1922–1988). Their collaboration spanned four decades and produced hundreds of songs.

In addition, Savona wrote music and sometimes scripts for radio and television programs, stage shows and films. During the 1970s he worked as a pianist , band leader , conductor extremely active, arranger and producer. Finally, he took care of the preservation and maintenance of folk songs . He founded his own label, I Dischi dello Zodiaco , with Armando Scascia in 1969. In 1991 he published an autobiographical book about the Quartetto Cetra .
