Antonio de Guevara

Antonio de Guevara (* around 1480 in Treceño , Cantabria ; † April 3, 1545 in Mondoñedo , province of Lugo , Spain) was a Spanish writer from the province of Álava and an imaginative historian . He invented ancient templates and enriched existing templates with invented representations.

Life

He came from an impoverished aristocracy, came to the court of Emperor Charles V at a young age and held high offices as a Franciscan . He was the official chronicler , inquisitor , bishop of Guadix and Mondoñedo near A Coruña . In his moral works he recommends turning away from the ideal of court life.

His work was very successful in Europe and had an influence on Michel de Montaigne and Grimmelshausen , for example .
