Antonio de Pian

Antonio de Pian (* 1784 in Venice , † April 10, 1851 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter and engraver of Italian origin.

Life

De Pian was the son of the engraver Giovanni de Pian . After his first artistic lessons from his father, he visited various studios in Venice in order to receive training. Canaletto's artistic influence also came from this period .

He came to Vienna with his father and soon got a job at the court. At the age of 32, he was appointed set designer by the management of the court theater in 1816. In 1821 de Pian became a stage painter. He kept this position until the end of his life.

De Pian made numerous study trips to Italy , from which he brought home ideas for his artistic work. In 1843 the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna accepted him as a full member.

The influence of Carlo Galli da Bibiena , which his student Hermann Josef Neefe picked up but changed , also becomes noticeable in his later artistic work .

Antonio de Pian died in Vienna in 1851 at the age of 67.

In 1956, Piangasse in Vienna- Simmering (11th district) was named after him.

The painter Giovanni Battista de Pian was his son.
