Antony Darnborough
Antony Charles Darnborough (born October 6, 1913 in Weybridge , County Surrey , Great Britain , † September 24, 2000 in London ) was a British film producer and occasional film director in the 1940s and 1950s.
Live and act
Darnborough had attended Beaumont College at Old Windsor and began his career in 1932 as a reporter for the Daily Mail . His areas of expertise there were theater and film. He came to film in 1944 and was assistant production to Sydney , Muriel and Betty Box between 1945 and 1947 in the making of The Last Veil, The Years Between, Daybreak, The Perfect Killer , Abysses and The Battle for Jimmy .
At the end of 1947 Antony Darnborough began producing for Gainsborough Pictures . He made dramas and melodramas, crime films and comedies. Darnborough achieved his greatest successes between 1948 and 1951 with three adaptations of short stories penned by Somerset Maugham, most of which were critically acclaimed : Quartet, So ist das Leben and Dacapo . As early as 1956 his activity for the cinema ended, and Antony Darnborough only produced television films and documentaries.
