Sydney Box

Sydney Box (born April 29, 1907 in Beckenham , † May 25, 1983 in Perth ) was a British film producer and screenwriter.

Sydney Box initially worked as a journalist and wrote various stage plays. From 1935 he wrote the scripts together with his wife Muriel Box . In 1939 he founded his own production company with Verity Films . a. Made films for the British military. In 1943 he was hired by Riverside Studios and focused more on the production of films.

He and his wife won the 1947 Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Compton Bennett's The Last Veil . In the same year, Box moved to Gainsborough Pictures , replacing Maurice Ostrer. In 1951 he received an Oscar nomination for Best Sound . The award eventually went to the 20th Century-Fox Sound Department for the film All About Eva . In 1958, Box switched to television and helped found Tyne Tees Television . He continued his production activities until 1967 and then emigrated to Australia , where he died in 1983.
