Antti Aarnio (born May 14, 1981 in Oulu ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who was active in the SM-liiga for Kärpät Oulu , SaiPa Lappeenranta and HPK Hämeenlinna during his career . With Kärpät he was Finnish champion four times .

Career

Antti Aarnio already played in the junior division for Kärpät Oulu , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 2001/02 season . Since his debut, the defender has won the championship title in the SM-liiga four times with Kärpät in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008 and was runner-up in 2003 and 2009. In addition, he reached the final of the IIHF European Champions Cup with Kärpät in 2005 , with the team losing to the Russian representative HK Awangard Omsk . During the 2005/06 season , Aarnio was temporarily under contract with Brynäs IF in the Swedish Elitserien .

For the 2010/11 season , Aarnio moved within the SM-liiga to SaiPa Lappeenranta .

International

For Finland , Aarnio took part in the U18 World Junior Championship in 1999 , where he and his team became world champions.
