Aortitis
The Aortitis is an inflammation of the aorta , ie the large body artery leading from the heart through the chest into the abdomen. Aortitis is a rare condition.
causes
- Aortitis can occur with bacterial infections of the blood , for example with intravenous substance abuse . However, bacterial deposits on the heart valves or pneumonia are much more likely to occur.
- Syphilis used to be a common cause of aortitis . Syphilitic aortitis is also Aortitis syphilitica called. It mainly affects the aortic parts near the heart, the ascending aorta and the arched part. Usually the pocket valves of the aorta and the coronary artery branch are also inflamed.
- Aortitis is rarely found in the context of autoimmune vascular diseases such as Takayasu arteritis , giant cell arteritis , polyarteritis nodosa , Kawasaki syndrome and other vasculitides .
- The arteriosclerosis also leads to secondary inflammatory changes within the framework of the vascular deposits, which, however, are usually not regarded as aortitis.
Diagnosis
- Pulse sensing
- Pulse measurement with the ultrasonic doppler
- CT or MRI of the aorta
- Determine signs of inflammation in the blood
- Blood cultures for the detection of bacteremia
- Angiography
