Apaña is a town in the La Paz department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Apaña is an independent municipality in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) La Paz in the province of Murillo and is located seventeen kilometers southwest of the center of the metropolis of La Paz . The village is located at an altitude of 3860 m on the eastern edge of the La Paz administrative district Zona Sur.

Apaña is located on the eastern edge of the Bolivian Altiplano and is dominated to the east by the peaks of the Cordillera Real , which rises here with the Illimani heights of almost 6,500 meters. The climate of the region is a typical daytime climate , in which the mean temperature fluctuations between day and night are more pronounced than in the course of the seasons.
The mean average temperature of the region is around 8 ° C (see climate diagram Palca) and fluctuates only slightly between 6 ° C in June / July and 10 ° C in November. The annual precipitation is around 600 mm, with a pronounced dry season from May to August with monthly precipitation below 15 mm, and a precipitation maximum in January of 120 mm.
Transport network
Apaña is located at a distance of seventeen kilometers by road southeast of the center of La Paz , the capital of the department.
From the center of the department capital, you first follow the course of the Río de la Paz for seven kilometers in a south-easterly direction, then cross the river to the northeast and cross the Macrodistrito Sur for a further nine kilometers. Apaña is then on a side street that continues in a south-easterly direction to Santiago de Collana .
