Apatesia is a plant kind from the family of aizoaceae (Aizoaceae). The botanical name of the genus is derived from the Greek word apatesis for 'deception' and refers to the strong similarity with the genus Hymenogyne .

description

The species of the genus Apatesia grow as annual plants . The flat oval leaves are only slightly succulent . Those of a couple form an open basal sheath. There are protruding bladder cells along the leaf margins . Your epidermis contains flakes of wax.

The flowers have a long stalk. Their petals, which are ciliate in their lower half, are yellow. The staminodes are thread-like and papilose , the stamens are covered with dense, inflated papillae at their tip. The nectarium is ring-shaped, but hardly lophomorphic. The scars are stuck together but not fused together. The flowering time is in early summer, i. H. the plants bloom in their homeland from August to October. The eight to twelve-pod capsule fruits are slightly convex in shape. They have swelling strips and very small fan ceilings. The fruits contain light to dark brown, smooth or papillary seeds .

The genus Apatesia is widespread in South Africa in all western districts of the Western Cape Province . There the plants grow in sandy places with winter rainfall of more than 200 millimeters per year.
