Aqsukent ( Kazakh Ақсукент , Russian Аксукент ; until 2001 Belyje Vody) is a place in Kazakhstan .
geography
The place is located in the south of Kazakhstan in the Turkistan region around 20 kilometers as the crow flies from the city center of Shymkent . The Aqsu River , a tributary of the Arys, flows through Aqsukent . Aqsukent is the administrative center of Audany Sairam .
history
Aqsukent was founded in 1889. The place was inhabited by Russian settlers and was first named Belyje Vody (Белые Воды). On September 27, 2001, it was renamed Aqsu. Later the place name was changed again to Aqsukent.
population
At the 1999 census, Aqsukent had 23,620 inhabitants. The last census in 2009 showed a population of 29,541 for the place. The extrapolation of the population resulted in a population of 24,526 as of January 1, 2020.

Economy and Transport
The A2 expressway , an important east-west connection in southern Kazakhstan, runs north of Aqsukent . It heads west to Schymkent before reaching the Uzbek border and finally continuing to Tashkent . In an easterly direction it continues to the Chinese border via Taras and Almaty . Mankent train station is located in Aqsukent; this is on the Turkestan-Siberian Railway .
