Arūnas Poniškaitis

Arūnas Poniškaitis (born August 1, 1966 Rajon Šakiai , Lithuanian SSR ) is Catholic auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Vilnius .

Life

After graduating from secondary school in 1984 at Vilkaviškis Second Middle School (now “Aušros” high school), he served in the Soviet Army and studied at the Kaunas Seminary from 1987 to 1992, and on May 31, 1992 he received the ordination of Juozas Žemaitis MIC . After that he was vicar in Alytus . In 1997 he graduated from the licentiate and a doctorate in 2001 in theology . From 2001 to 2009 he taught fundamental theology at the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas , and gave courses at the Vilkaviškis Seminary and the Marijampolė College .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him titular bishop of Sinna on February 5, 2010 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in Vilnius. He received the episcopal ordination on March 4th of the same year by Audrys Juozas Cardinal Bačkis , the Archbishop of Vilnius . Co- consecrators were Sigitas Tamkevičius , Archbishop of Kaunas , and Rimantas Norvila , Bishop of Vilkaviškis .
