ar-race ( Arabic الرس, DMG ar-Rass ) is a city in the province of al-Qasim in Saudi Arabia . It is located southwest of Buraida , the capital of the province, and north of Riyadh , the state capital. The population in 2010 was 92,501.
geography
ar-rass is located in al-Qasim province in central Saudi Arabia. It is located about 400 km north of Riyadh, 50 km west of Unaiza and about 80 km southwest of Buraida, the regional capital. ar-Rass has a typical Najd -Terrain with sand dunes that surround the sides of the city, which is surrounded by Bedouin settlements except for the western and southern sides. The Wadi ar-Rumma (Rummatal) crosses the city from its south side to its northeast side. There are several medium-high plateaus and low mountains surrounding the city, mainly on the south side, called Jebel Algoshi by the locals. There are several ancient ruins of a place called Schinana. These are based on ancient fortifications in fighting between Āl Sa'ud and al Raschid were used
climate
The city has a typical desert climate, which is characterized by its cooler winters and hot summers with low humidity. The average temperature in winter is between 8 and 21 degrees Celsius. June , July , August and September are the hottest months. In summer the temperature can reach extreme values (between 39 and 50 degrees).
Sports
Al-Hazem football club is based in the city and played in the Saudi Professional League in 2020 .
Others
The region around the city is considered to be one of the most religiously conservative in the country. In April 2005, the Saudi authorities launched a series of raids in ar-rass in which 15 suspected Islamic militants were killed and seven others were captured. More than 50 Saudi security guards were injured in the shootings.
