Araria is a city in the state of Bihar in eastern India . It is the capital of the district of the same name . Araria has the status of a City Council ( Nagar parishad ). The city is divided into 29 wards (constituencies). It is approximately 322 km from Bihar's capital, Patna .
Demographics
The population of the city is 79,021 according to the 2011 census. Araria has a gender ratio of 875 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus typical for India. The literacy rate was 72.40% in 2011. Almost 59.1% of the population are Hindus , about 40.1% are Muslims and about 0.8% belong to other or no religions. 17.2% of the population are children under 6 years of age. 10.6% of the population are part of the Scheduled Castes .
Infrastructure
The National Highway 57 connects Siwan with Muzaffarpur and Purnia .
