Muzaffarpur ( Hindi मुज़फ्फरपुर ) is a city in the Indian state of Bihar .
Muzaffarpur is located in the north Indian plain on the right bank of the Burhi Gandak , a left tributary of the Ganges . It forms the administrative seat of the district of the same name . Muzaffarpur is located 60 km north-northeast of Patna . Muzaffarpur is a municipal corporation ( Nagar Nigam ). The city is divided into 49 wards . In the 2011 census, the population was just under 355,000. Muzaffarpur is on the national highway NH 22 , which leads from Patna to the Nepalese border. In addition, the national trunk road NH 27 connectsMuzaffarpur with Darbhanga, 50 km further east .
