Katihar is a city in the Indian state of Bihar .

It has 243,232 inhabitants and is the administrative seat of the Katihar district . The National Highway 81 (NH 81) passes near the city . Katihar is an important part of the North East Frontier Railway . The nearest airport is in Bagdogra , West Bengal , at a distance of 190 km. The Ganges flows past Katihar, at a distance of about 25 km. The Kosi River also flows past Katihar, at a distance of about 30 km.
