Darbhanga ( Hindi दरभंगा ) is a city in the Indian state of Bihar .

Darbhanga is located in the north Indian plain 70 km north of the Ganges and 50 km from the Nepalese border. The city forms the administrative seat of the district of the same name . Darbhanga is 100 km northeast of Patna . Darbhanga is a Municipal Corporation ( Nagar Nigam ). The city is divided into 48 wards . In the 2011 census, the population was just under 300,000. The national highway NH 27 connects Darbhanga with Muzaffarpur, 50 km further to the west .
