Purnia ( Hindi पूर्णियाँ ; also Purnea ) is a city in the Indian state of Bihar .
Purnia is located in the north Indian plain 40 km north of the Ganges . It forms the administrative seat of the district of the same name . Purnia is 240 km east of Patna . Purnia is a Municipal Corporation ( Nagar Nigam ) with 46 wards . In the 2011 census, the population was around 282,000. Several national highways cross in Purnia. Almost 30 km to the south is Katihar, the nearest larger city.
