Aratus is a small, round, cup-shaped impact crater with a relatively high albedo on the plateau south and east of the rugged Montes Apenninus . The Mare Serenitatis extends to the east and the Conon crater to the southwest .
North-northeast of Aratus , in the valley between the Mons Hadley Delta and the Mons Hadley , is the landing site of Apollo 15 .

Aratus CA represents an unusual structure , whereby it is not a secondary crater, but a depression in the level of the Mare Serenitatis that is far removed from the main crater and not connected to it.
