The working group for the fight against cancer ( ARGE Krebs ) organizes the medical rehabilitation of the insured persons residing in North Rhine-Westphalia after a cancer illness on behalf of the carriers of the statutory pension and health insurance . ARGE Krebs was founded on April 5, 1956, to improve the situation of those with social insurance who suffer from cancer. It is a working group in accordance with Section 94, Book 10 of the Social Code (SGB X) in the form of a non-legal association (Section 54 BGB) and the only institution of this kind in Germany.

Tasks and services

According to the requirements of the social laws and the statutes, ARGE Krebs supports the fight against cancer and focuses on aftercare . The aim is to enable working people to return to work and to avoid the need for long- term care in older people . People with cancer should be enabled to master the challenges of everyday life, to prevent possible long-term effects of the disease and thus to gain a better quality of life. The ARGE Krebs works with organizations with the same objective, can support research in the field of cancer aftercare and subsidize rehabilitation-related projects of cancer self-help organizations.

Grant rehab services

Oncological rehabilitation

In the application process, ARGE Krebs decides on the type, duration, scope, start and implementation of oncological rehabilitation. This takes place on an inpatient or full day outpatient basis in suitable rehab facilities and usually lasts three weeks. All clinics offer therapies such as physiotherapy , sports courses, psycho-oncological care and social counseling , which are used depending on the individual situation. There are also special therapies, such as illness or treatment-related adverse lymphatic therapy , occupational therapy , speech therapy and much more.

Oncological rehabilitation is usually approved up to one year after the end of primary treatment ( surgery , radiation , chemotherapy ). In the event of significant functional disorders as a result of the cancer itself or its therapy, further rehabilitation services are possible in individual cases within two years of the primary treatment.

Follow-up rehabilitation (AHB)

Connection rehabilitation are stationary or one day out-patient rehabilitation that connect directly to the primary treatment: within 14 days after hospital discharge or the end of chemotherapy, within four weeks after radiation treatment, within ten weeks after irradiation of the neck or throat. Further extensions of the deadline for medical reasons require the prior approval of ARGE Krebs.

Educate and advise

As a service point, ARGE Krebs is the contact person for medical, social and other topics related to cancer follow-up care and rehabilitation. Insured persons, relatives, social services , practice teams and doctors can contact the employees at the office with their questions. They also provide contacts, for example to cancer advice centers.

Promote research projects

ARGE Krebs supports institutions that research cancer aftercare - especially oncological rehabilitation - or promote these areas.

Support self-help

ARGE Krebs subsidizes rehabilitation-related projects by self-help organizations that support people with cancer and their relatives.

organization

ARGE Krebs is an amalgamation of all statutory pension and health insurance providers and their associations in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Members

The ARGE Krebs' statutes distinguish between members with a decision-making vote, members with an advisory vote and honorary members. Members with a decision-making vote are exclusively social service providers and their associations . Members with an advisory vote can be other legal or natural persons . They are accepted by the board of directors. Honorary members are personalities who have made special contributions to ARGE Krebs. They are proposed by the board and appointed by the general assembly.

Members with a deciding vote

General meeting

The general assembly is the highest organ of ARGE Krebs. It is manned by representatives of the members with a deciding vote. As a rule, the delegates belong to the self-governing bodies of the sending agency. The chairman of the board of directors chairs the general assembly. Among other things, the general assembly decides on the statutes and their amendments, determines the budget and approves the annual accounts. It also releases the board of directors and the managing director.

Spring-run rehabilitation facilities

Basically, a rehabilitation facility must be suitable for the respective oncological indication and meet the requirements for quality and targeted rehabilitation in the sense of the statutory pension insurance. ARGE Krebs occupies rehabilitation facilities with an oncological focus, with which it works on a contractual basis. All lead rehab facilities are included in a quality assurance program. This includes a regular, comprehensive assessment by the patient. In addition, there are other facilities in Germany that can carry out oncological rehabilitation, which can be occupied under other conditions.
