The BKK-Landesverband Nordwest is the umbrella organization of the company health insurance funds that have their headquarters in Hamburg , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Schleswig-Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia . It has its legal seat in Essen and, like every BKK, is a corporation under public law . Its two head offices are in Hamburg and Essen. Almost four million residents are insured in a company health insurance fund in the association's territory.

The BKK-Landesverband Nordwest, which has existed under this name and in its current form since July 1, 2010, results from the merger of the BKK-Landesverband Nord with the BKK-Landesverband Nordrhein-Westfalen.

The tasks of the organization include in particular the political representation of interests and public relations work for its member funds as well as the negotiation and conclusion of contracts with doctors, dentists, hospitals and other service providers in the health care system.

The primary goal of the BKK and its associations is to secure the central supply structures in the regions of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Health care is to be organized efficiently and needs-oriented products created for market participants. The association is committed to the consumer protection idea of the insured and patients as well as the well-being of the statutory health insurance .

Board of Directors
The supreme body of the BKK-Landesverband Nordwest is the administrative board . It consists of voluntary insured and half employer representatives of the member funds and defines the basic line of the association's policy.
The 26 members of the Board of Directors perform their duties on a voluntary basis. Their term of office is six years.
Board
The association's board of directors is full-time in charge of day-to-day administrative business, represents the association externally and ensures that the decisions of the administrative board are implemented.

The Northwest Regional Association is financed through contributions from its member funds (membership and residence fee) as well as company health insurance funds with insured persons residing in the area of responsibility of the BKK - State Association (residence contribution) and other income.
