history

In 1992, after the Gulf War , six young people from Dresden drove with a semi-trailer of the former National People's Army of the GDR loaded with relief supplies to the UN protection zone in northern Iraq. The association was founded in the same year. From the headquarters in the Dresden Yenidze and a small Berlin branch, 30 full-time employees, supported by numerous volunteers, control the projects at home and abroad. German and international specialists lead the projects on site and implement them together with local employees / partner organizations. In the meantime arche noVa eV has grown into the largest East German aid organization. Since 2002 the association has offered a development education program that brings the topic of global learning to schools, vocational schools and other public places in order to strengthen the understanding of global relationships in Germany. Since the devastating tsunami in South-East Asia in 2004, the association and the state capital of Dresden have been cooperating in the joint action alliance "Dresden helps" and are implementing emergency aid and development aid projects in acute crisis areas.

In humanitarian aid , the association works for people in acute emergency situations. For example, drinking water treatment systems are used or aid supplies with hygiene items are distributed. In long-term projects of development-oriented cooperation, the people affected are supported in building an independent and self-determined existence. The focus is on securing the water supply, promoting economic independence, education and hygiene awareness. The association works with local partners and involves local people in the planning and implementation of projects. Arche noVa eV is committed to the implementation of water as a human right , for example through hygiene education programs and cooperation with local water committees.

Emergency team

Arche noVa has been on site after disasters since 1992 and guarantees initial basic supplies for those affected with drinking water treatment systems, expertise in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene, aid distribution and other emergency aid measures. The emergency aid team is ready for action in the event of a natural disaster and is available for several weeks in emergency and disaster relief.

Disaster preparedness

After the floods on the Elbe and Danube in 2013, arche noVa helped 120 non-profit organizations with the reconstruction. In order to be prepared for renewed floods and to keep the damage as low as possible, arche noVa has since supported the institutions affected at the time with the manual "Disaster Management in the Association" as well as workshops and consultations.

Global learning

Under the motto “One world - your world”, employees of the association carry out educational work at Saxon schools . The topics of these interdisciplinary project days are democracy , humanitarian aid , conflicts , sustainability , tolerance , globalization , displacement and world trade . The aim of these events is to sensitize young people to problems and inequalities in a globalized world and to motivate them to act. The project was named the “Official Project of the United Nations Decade on Education for Sustainable Development”. In addition, the association is also targeting teachers and student teachers with advanced training on the topic of global learning. The arche noVa educational program is a recognized location for the Voluntary Ecological Year .
