Archibald DeB. Johnson

Archibald DeBaun Johnson (born November 3, 1898 in Mexico , † January 30, 1982 in Wynnewood ) was an American manager. He was President of Penn Central Company in the 1970s .

Life

Archibald DeB. Johnson grew up as the son of a missionary in Mexico. He received his first education from private tutors. In 1914 he began his studies at Princeton University , which he graduated in 1919.

He did his military service in World War I in the Student Army Training Corps .

Upon graduation, he began working for the Philadelphia National Bank . Here he rose to Vice President. In 1963 he left the bank and became president of the Philadelphia Transportation Company , a Philadelphia local transit company .

In the fall of 1970, he was elected secretary-treasurer (finance director) of the bankrupt Penn Central Company. After the resignation of Gaylord P. Harnwell , he became Chairman , Chief Executive Officer and President of the company on March 24, 1971 . In the following years his main activity was to secure the value of the company within the scope of the bankruptcy proceedings. So he argued against the proposed by the bankruptcy administrators spin-off of the subsidiary Pennsylvania Company from the group. With the end of the bankruptcy proceedings on October 24, 1978, his activities for the company also ended.

He died on January 30, 1982 in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. He is buried in the Chapel Garden of the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church.

He was married and had two children.
