The Architectural Character Pictures , subtitle A selection of German and foreign architectural works of our time , was a portfolio published from 1900 with architecture illustrations based on photographs and drawings.

A vintage consisted of 100 loose panels , which were produced using the collotype process, sent in six deliveries and collected in a 45 cm × 33 cm half-linen folder with fastening straps. The individual sheets were 42.0 cm × 32.0 cm in size.

The panels were individually numbered consecutively and bore the brief description of the object, the name of the artist of the work represented and the year number of the collective work. Most of the buildings of Art Nouveau and , more rarely, Historicism were shown . As with many comparable portfolios, the individual deliveries were provided with a multi-page sheet of text, which in this case, however, contained not only explanations of the buildings shown, but also some longer essays by the editor ; an accompanying text of around eighty pages is known for the 3rd year 1902.

First editor was the architect Bruno Mohring , who over the publishing of Carl Ebner, Art, Washington, DC distribution, a title page and the printing of an inner track, the artist Melchior Lechter designed and with his initials "ME" signs had. The 3rd year 1902 was published by Richard Katz .

Collections

Outside of the free antique trade, there are now - partly incomplete - bundles of panels from this collection, for example in the Munich Pinakothek der Moderne , in the Architecture Museum of the Technical University of Munich and in the Technical Information Library of the Leibniz University of Hanover .
