Architecture award NRW
The NRW Architecture Prize has been awarded every three to four years by the North Rhine-Westphalia regional association of the Federation of German Architects since 1998 to architects and builders for structures from the last five years in NRW that have already been awarded by regional groups. The award serves to promote building culture and is not endowed.
Procedure
The NRW Architecture Prize is under the patronage of the respective building minister of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . An independent jury of at least three architects from outside North Rhine-Westphalia, an architecture journalist or publicist and a public figure as well as a representative of the sponsor (as a consultant without voting rights) will select the awards for good buildings from the awards of the currently 16 regional groups , including the Cologne Architecture Prize , awarded 10 equal awards (until 2001 "prizes"). Since 2004, in a written procedure in which all around 1000 members of the regional association can participate, choose from the 10 awards the work that will receive the "Architecture Prize NRW". All around 50 nominated objects (from around 500 of the preliminary proceedings) will be exhibited and published in a catalog. The objects to be awarded are each presented to the jury by a member of the preliminary proceedings. Prize winners and the 9 award winners receive a certificate, and the respective builder receives a plaque that can be attached to the building. The winners and the awards are nominated for the Great Nike Prize of the BDA Federal Association.
