Cologne Architecture Prize
The Cologne Architecture Prize is one of the oldest German architecture prizes . It has been advertised every three to five years since 1967 for exemplary buildings in the Cologne region . It is supported by the Architektur Forum Rheinland (AFR), the Bund Deutscher Architekten Köln (BDA), the Deutscher Werkbund NW (DWB) and the Kölnischer Kunstverein (KKV).
Goals and tasks:
- The task of the "Verein Kölner Architekturpreis eV" (kap) is to promote the quality of planning and building in a responsible manner towards society and the environment.
- The Cologne Architecture Prize is awarded with the aim of honoring exemplary buildings in the area of the city of Cologne and the surrounding districts of the advertised area.
- The award is intended to help anchor and consolidate public awareness of quality in planning and construction and to set quality standards in contemporary architecture.
- The award is given for outstanding architectural achievements. These can be found not only in the prominent buildings, but equally in the everyday construction tasks that shape the face of our cities and landscapes.
- It can be awarded for a building (new construction, renovation, extension), a group of buildings, an urban development facility, an open-air facility or a temporary intervention in public space.
- Not only the performance of the architects involved is recognized, but also the responsible part of the building owners.
In 2017 the Cologne Architecture Prize celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Award 1967
This award covered a period of 20 years of construction since 1950 and was carried out in 1967.
