The Immanuel Church is the church of the evangelical bridge building community Cologne-Flittard / Stammheim in Cologne-Stammheim . It was inaugurated on March 3, 2013. The church building offers the architectural possibility of holding various types of events in the church and the side rooms. The church complex consists of the church, a bell tower and a small chapel .

history

The evangelical bridge building community Cologne-Flittard / Stammheim belongs to the Evangelical Church Association Cologne and Region in the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland (EKiR). The Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Haus community center previously located here was demolished at the beginning of 2012 and the Immanuel Church was built in its place. Since the Lukaskirche in Flittard had already been demolished in 2009, the congregation was without a church for a year.

The Berlin architectural office Sauerbruch Hutton won the tender to build the new church . The construction of the wooden church cost 3.7 million euros. On the 30th June 2012 , the ceremony took groundbreaking ceremony instead. The topping-out ceremony took place two months later, on August 30, 2012.

Building

The inside of the church is made of Finnish spruce , while the outside is clad in Finnish larch wood .

The bell tower of the church stands as a free-standing campanile next to the church and is also clad with wood.

organ

In the church there is an organ made by the Freiburg organ builder Späth . A “screen” made up of almost 4,000 differently colored wooden slats covers the entire wall of the brochure-free instrument and is also a design element of the entire church space. The slider chest instrument has 23 registers and a transmission on two manual works and a pedal. The playing and stop actions are electric.

Bells

The three bells from the demolished Lukaskirche in Flittard were transferred to the new church. They were cast by the Rincker bell foundry in Sinn in 1963. Twice a day, at 12 p.m. and 7 p.m., the prayer bell reminds us to pray. Every Saturday after the evening prayer bell, Sunday is rung in with all the bells. For the main service there is a ringing of the bell half an hour before the start; Instead, the two big bells ring on feast days. Before the service begins, all three bells usually ring. The prayer bell is rung for the Lord's Prayer, as well as for mourning. The middle bell rings at weekday services.
