German architecture award
The German Architecture Prize has been awarded every two years since 1971. The prize was donated in 1971 by Ruhrgas AG under the name "Ruhrgas Architekturpreis" and organized and carried out by Karl Krämer Verlag Stuttgart as a co-initiator. With the assumption of patronage by the Bundesarchitektenkammer e. V. in 1977 the name was changed to "German Architecture Prize" and the prize was awarded independently of the product. Since 2011, the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development and the Federal Chamber of Architects e. V. Organizer of the German Architecture Prize. The E.ON Ruhrgas AG now does not act more than the main sponsor .
The German Architecture Prize is to be awarded to a building that is exemplary for the development of building in our time , which is characterized by its innovative and high-quality architecture , contributes to the design of public space and is exemplary in its consideration of problems of the environment, sustainability and the Energy efficiency .
Work in the field of architecture and urban development as well as work on the renovation and preservation of historical buildings that were completed in Germany are eligible for participation in the German Architecture Prize . The total prize money is 60,000 euros. The prize itself is endowed with 30,000 euros. Awards and recognitions for the German Architecture Prize are also given. A further 30,000 euros are available for this. The award recognizes the builders with a certificate that architects and architects with a certificate and a cash prize.
