Georg A. Poensgen

Georg A. Poensgen (* 1964 in Marmagen ) is a German architect and university professor.

Live and act

Georg A. Poensgen comes from the old Reidemeister family Poensgen , which has its origins in the Schleiden area in the Eifel . After completing school, Poensgen initially trained as a draftsman from 1980 to 1983 and later studied architecture at Cologne University of Applied Sciences from 1988 to 1993 . During this time he gained his first practical experience in the architecture office Gatermann & Schossig from Dörte Gatermann and Elmar Schossig . Between 1993 and 1999 Poensgen worked as a freelancer and project partner in renowned Cologne architecture offices, including Joachim Schürmann & Partner and baucoop - Wolfgang Felder . From 1999 to 2001 he completed his architecture studies at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal .

During this time, he was already working as a research assistant for Heiner Krumlinde in the fields of design and interior design at the Bochum University of Applied Sciences from 2000 , where he was also appointed as a professor from 2002. In 2006 and 2007 Poensgen took on a teaching position for design in the architecture department at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences . From 2008 to 2011 Poensgen worked again as a research assistant at the Bochum University of Applied Sciences, this time for the subjects of building theory and design with André Habermann. Finally, in 2011, Poensgen accepted a call to the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences , where he has been teaching as a full professor for building construction , housing construction and design in the building industry and has been responsible for the master’s degree in architecture since 2013 .

In 1999 Georg A. Poensgen and his wife, the interior designer Andrea Denzer, founded the architectural office Denzer & Poensgen in Marmagen. Since then, they have won numerous prizes with their construction contracts, including the Cologne Architecture Prize (2000), the State Prize for Architecture & Housing of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate (2013), the Building Owner Prize of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (2007) and the Chamber of Architects of the Saarland (2010) as well as several special prizes and awards in the categories “The Golden House” and “Houses of the Year”.

Georg Poensgen was a member of the Chamber of Architects OAI - Ordre des Architectes et des Ingenieurs-Conseils in Luxembourg from 2011 to 2017 and has been a member of the regional advisory board "baukunst-nrw" (Eifel) of the North Rhine-Westphalia Chamber of Architects (AKNW) since 2011 and a member of the Planning and design advisory board for the Hunsrück-Hochwald national park region.
