Wormland ( proper spelling WORMLAND ) is a department store chain for men's clothing based in Hanover .
history
The company specializing in men's fashion was founded in 1935 by the textile merchant Theo Wormland in Hanover. The company was initially based in Theaterstrasse there and was relocated to Karmarschstrasse near Kröpcke in 1939 . During the Second World War , the commercial building was destroyed in the air raids on Hanover and rebuilt after the war. The Wormland company was known as the “ avant-garde of men's fashion”, which set standards in Hanover as a men's outfitter with its fashionable chic . In 1953 and 1969, Theo Wormland opened additional branches in Cologne and Munich. With the shop window decorations changing weekly and the light art facade of the Cologne shop, he gained attention in the industry. After the founder's death in 1983, the company and its private art collection were transferred to the Theo Wormland Foundation . In 1990 the shop in Cologne burned out and reopened in 1991. The chain store has remained a men's outfitter to this day and has been run by Oliver Beuthien since 2000. In 2015, Wormland was completely taken over by Ludwig Beck (Munich) . At the beginning of 2016 Beuthien left Wormland and switched to the Mannheim clothing company Engelhorn . In April 2019, Ludwig Beck AG Wormland ceded a management buy-out to a company made up of executives. Beck transferred the shares unencumbered and added EUR 7.5 million; the buyers undertook to provide EUR 500,000 as a shareholder contribution.
Business concept
The group of companies offers concepts for two target groups. WORMLAND Men's Fashion includes fashion for men with branches in Berlin, Bremen, Dortmund, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover, Munich, Nuremberg and in the CentrO Oberhausen. The branches are characterized by their inner city location, a minimum size of 1000 m² and generous window fronts. The THEO area is aimed at younger customers and is also the name of one of the company's own brands. Theo branches are smaller in terms of area and have between 300 and 500 m². They are located in Bochum, Bremen, Dortmund, Hanover, Ludwigshafen and Oldenburg.
