Argent were a British rock band formed by Rod Argent in 1969 after his previous band The Zombies split up .

history

In addition to Rod Argent (keyboard), the band originally consisted of Jim Rodford (bass), Bob Henrit (drums) and Russ Ballard (guitar, keyboard). Ballard, Rodford and Argent shared the role of lead singer. The group's songwriters were Rod Argent, Chris White (previously bassist, producer, and songwriter for The Zombies), and Russ Ballard.

Her debut album Argent was released in early 1970 . The song Liar , written by Russ Ballard, became a 1971 hit for Three Dog Night (# 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 ). The piece was covered several times, including in 1972 by Capability Brown .

The breakthrough for Argent came in 1972 with the third album All Together Now . The single Hold Your Head Up made it to number 5 in the US charts. God Gave Rock and Roll to You from the next album In Deep (1973) was a hit for Kiss in the early 1990s .

In 1974 Ballard left the group to begin a solo career. Then came John Verity (guitar, vocals) and John Grimaldi (guitar). After two more albums and a film that was never released, Argent broke up in 1976. Rodford, Henrit and Verity continued as "Phoenix" for a short time before Rodford and Henrit went to the Kinks .

In 2010, Argent appeared again a few times in the original line-up. Jim Rodford died on January 20, 2018 at the age of 76 as a result of a fall down stairs.
