description

The nucleus of the manor house emerged in the later 18th century. Today, however, this structure only forms the rear wing. The current main building dates from 1818. Although no direct evidence exists, Argrennan House is attributed to the Scottish architect James Gillespie Graham due to stylistic details . There are extensive similarities in the design of Argrennan House with the now demolished Mount Melville mansion designed by Graham . Argrennan House is isolated off the A711 around four kilometers north of Tongland on the right bank of the Dee .

The two-story Argrennan House is designed in a classical style. The south-facing front is seven axes wide. The central entrance area is accessible via a front staircase. The entrance area is designed with Tuscan columns and a final balustrade . Elongated windows and pilasters flank the double-winged entrance portal. The central projection closes with a triangular gable . Cornices on corbels crown the twelve-part lattice windows on the ground floor with polished natural stone surrounds made of red sandstone . The east and west facades are three axes wide, the eastern one being rounded. The building closes with slate-covered hip or paltform roofs .
