Argyle is a small town in Denton County in the US state of Texas in the United States of America and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex .
geography
The city is located in northeast Texas on the north-south running US Highway 35 and US Highway 377, is about 65 km to the north from Oklahoma and has a total area of 28.9 km², of which 0.1 km² is water. The distance to the southeast located Dallas is about 55 km.
history
The first white colonization of the area began around 1850 by a few families. A school was built in 1875, a Baptist church in 1876, and a post office in 1878 in Emily Wilson's log cabin. The further growth of the place proceeded only slowly and in 1890 148 people lived here. Even after the turn of the century, the place grew only slowly and in 1930 only had 238 inhabitants. The place was only connected to the public electricity and telephone network around 1935.
The Great Depression caused the population to decline, which reached its lowest point in 1950 with 90 inhabitants. Around 1970 they began building apartments for the rapidly growing populations of the nearby industrial cities of Fort Worth and Dallas and by 1990 the population had grown to 1575 and the city developed into a popular residential area for the middle and upper classes.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 2,365 people in 787 households and 694 families lived here. The population density was 82.0 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population is composed of 95.52% White, 0.17% African American, 0.63% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 2.45% other ethnic groups. About 0.97% are of two or more races, and 4.27% of the population are Spanish or Latin American.
Of the 787 households, 44.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 80.1% of them were married couples living together. 5.6% were single mothers and 11.7% were non-families. 8.9% of all households were single households and 3.3% had people living there who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.01 and the average family size was 3.19.
30.7% of the population were under 18 years old, 4.8% 18 to 24, 28.0% 25 to 44, 30.1% 45 to 64, and 6.4% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 102.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 95.2 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 91,161 , and the median income for a family is $ 94,309. Males had a median income of $ 58,500 versus $ 36,250 for females. The per capita income was $ 39,791. 3.4% of the population and 2.8% of families are below the poverty line. 3.4% of these were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 6.5% were 65 or older.
