Argyle is a small town in Denton County in the US state of Texas in the United States of America and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex .

geography

The city is located in northeast Texas on the north-south running US Highway 35 and US Highway 377, is about 65 km to the north from Oklahoma and has a total area of ​​28.9 km², of which 0.1 km² is water. The distance to the southeast located Dallas is about 55 km.

history

The first white colonization of the area began around 1850 by a few families. A school was built in 1875, a Baptist church in 1876, and a post office in 1878 in Emily Wilson's log cabin. The further growth of the place proceeded only slowly and in 1890 148 people lived here. Even after the turn of the century, the place grew only slowly and in 1930 only had 238 inhabitants. The place was only connected to the public electricity and telephone network around 1935.

The Great Depression caused the population to decline, which reached its lowest point in 1950 with 90 inhabitants. Around 1970 they began building apartments for the rapidly growing populations of the nearby industrial cities of Fort Worth and Dallas and by 1990 the population had grown to 1575 and the city developed into a popular residential area for the middle and upper classes.
