Ariane Lüthi

Ariane Lüthi (born October 8, 1983 in Thun ) is a Swiss mountain bike rider and Swiss champion .

Life

Lüthi grew up in Worb in the canton of Bern . She studied sports, media studies and history.

She began swimming in competitive sports , later switched to triathlon and, rather late, to mountain biking. In 2010 she got a contract with the South African team Spur and emigrated to Stellenbosch in South Africa. In January 2019 she was signed for the Kross Racing Team in Poland.

Lüthi is a two-time Swiss mountain bike marathon champion , fourth in the 2016 World Championship in the marathon , and multiple Cape Epic winner. She won numerous races including the Absa Cape Epic, the Cape Pioneer Trek, the Attakwas Extreme UCI Marathon and the Swiss Eric. In 2018 Lüthi won the Mountain Bike Epic in Romania against 130 other participants from 25 nations and climbed 8,500 meters in altitude within four days.

In 2018, Ariane Lüthi publicly stated that she had struggled with depression for two years. In the meantime her name was Ariane Kleinhans when she was married to her South African partner.
